May 3, 2011 marks my one year anniversary at Fit For Life Studio where I have faithfully been attending classes Monday-Friday 1-2hrs daily with an occasional Saturday here and there. Given there were a few moments when I just couldn't make it to class and I would beat myself up about it. Usually, that would be enough to keep me from returning to classes because I'm such an "All or Nothing" kind of person but I surprised myself each time I returned to workout even harder the next round.
Since then I have dropped 4 dress sizes, 20lbs +\- and countless inches. While I don't have before & after pictures to prove it, I do have my happy soul to keep me going for more each day! For years I have struggled with dieting, extreme workouts, tried anything & everything possible to drop the weight and keep it off. This time was different. I refused to measure my success by the scale in my bedroom and I refused to removed my favorite foods from my daily meal planning. Given I could have lost so much more in half the time but I needed to take the turtle approach and gradually work my way into my transition.
Then today I woke up with the urge to RUN! I haven't been running since my mid-20s and I have to admit the thought of JUST DO IT is daunting! Then I heard my 4yr old screaming down the hallway when I realized THERE'S MY MOTIVATION if I ever needed one today!! Aside from her 5yr old brother & 11yr old sister, my lovely 4yr old daughter keeps me on my toes from the moment she wakes up till the second her pretty little brunette head hits the pillow. She too has shown great progress these past 12mos.
This time last year she was moving around with the assistance of a walker & braces on both feet. Now according to her physical therapist, she is considered an independent walker as of April 2011. Having recall her amazing milestones got me thinking IF SHE CAN DO IT SO CAN I! Seriously, how much more motivation does this mom need to get moving on a Sunday? So now I am off to find a running trail, park or anywhere for that matter and hit the ground running ;)
There are trails everywhere! Harlingen's McKelvey Park and the trails in Mission. I use both for my bike-riding. Mission Trails is my favorite though :) Better scenery.
